This is a wood carving of a bear. It is hand carved in a single piece of wood. It will make a perfect wood gift for a friend, family member or oneself.
This is an original piece of art, carved be me, Josh Carte. I created this carving in a piece of Box Elder Burl wood. Box Elders have a unique, red color to them. It is very beautiful. The unique shape of this piece of wood is because of the burl. Burls form on trees due to some form of stress- typically an agrobacteria. The resulting burl is very unique, shapely and beautiful.
This is a wall-hanging sculpture. It measures 15 1/2" tall, 15 1/2" wide and 1 3/8" thick.

This type of carving is called relief. I began the carving by shaping the burl on my bandsaw. Next, I sanded this piece to make the wood surrounding the bear head really smooth. After that, I began carving the bear using different carbide burrs (bits). Once the shaping was finished, I sanded and sanded. I finished the piece with a couple coats of sealer and some oil paint. It is a very time consuming style of carving but I love every minute of it! This is truly a one of a kind carving.

Care instructions
My carvings can be cleaned using many different methods. A feather duster works nicely. Compressed air (duster or air compressor) also works well. If on a porch or indoors, my carvings will never need a new coat of sealer. Chainsaw carvings that are outdoors will need a fresh coat of sealer each year.
