This is a wood carving of a bear. I hand carved this in a piece of Big Leaf Maple Burl from a single piece of wood. It will make a perfect 5th Anniversary wood gift.
This is a wood carving that hangs on the wall. It is made from a slab of Big Leaf Maple burl. It is 11" tall, 10" wide and 1 1/4" thick.
Every hair was meticulously carved in by hand. Everything in my shop is made by hand, by me, Josh.
I will be happy to engrave something short in the back of this carving. Something like, "Happy Anniverary! I love you!" Please let me know what you would like engraved on the back, AS A NOTE, when you purchase this carving.
I began this sculpture with a block of wood. I drew an original image on the wood and began cutting out the negative spaces using a jigsaw. Next, I began shaping the bear using carbide burrs in my rotary hand tool. Every cut needs to be precise and accurate to achieve a beautiful finished product. I spent days making this carving. Once the carving of the bear was finished, everything needed to be sanded. I shaped and sanded the outside part of the carving using a mini belt sander, a random orbital sander, and not to mention lots of hand sanding.
I finished this piece with several coats of urethane and used just a tad of oil paint to accentuate my cuts.

Care instructions
My carvings can be cleaned using many different methods. A feather duster works nicely. Compressed air (duster or air compressor) also works well. If on a porch or indoors, my carvings will never need a new coat of sealer. Chainsaw carvings that are outdoors will need a fresh coat of sealer each year.
