“Guy in the Yellow Car”... 45 3/4" long, 1 1/2" diameter.. Dogwood hardwood. Dogwood is very, very hard. I like to use it for its structural integrity and beautiful pale color.
This walking stick is hand carved in Dogwood. Years ago, my wife and I saw an odd guy in the parking lot of Best Buy. He was in an old, yellow Volkswagen of some sort. When we first saw him, he looked like a regular, old man. After returning from the store, we saw him get out of his car, looking a bit more feminine with some funky lipstick and a botched attempt at looking womanly. Very memorable... I’m not sure if it was a compliment or insult that she said that this stick reminded her of that guy.
Everything in my shop is made by hand, by me, Josh. I don't have any elves or helpers. When you buy from me, you are helping to support my family. We really appreciate it :) When you buy something from an artist, you're buying more than an object. You're buying hundreds of hours or errors and experimentation. You're buying years of frustration, and moments of pure joy. You're not buying one thing, you are buying a piece of a heart, a piece of a soul.... a small piece of someone else's life.

I made this carving using a variety of tools. I peeled the stick using a drawknife. I sanded it with a palm sander. I carved the face using various burrs and bits in my Foredom hand piece. The tool I use for carving is similar to a dentist's tool... Sharp bits that spin really fast.... Near the end of the carving, to get as much detail as possible, I used bits that were as thin as needles. I finished the stick using 3 coats of spray polyurethane. I used just a tad bit of oil paint to help bring this guy to life.

Yes, I sometimes take custom orders :) Contact me and we can discuss the specifics.
I really enjoy creating themed walking sticks such as Odin, Thor, Baron Samedi or many, many other possibilities. If you'd like a stick with bears, owls, or whatever else you might have in mind, just shoot me a message and we can discuss it.
I am also happy to make custom chainsaw carvings of about any animal or object you'd like.
I know that, as a customer, you expect a certain level of control over the custom process and I, as an artist, expect a certain level of freedom. When we are able to meet in the middle, beautiful things can happen :)
Don't be afraid to message me :) Thanks so much!
My carvings can be cleaned using many different methods. A feather duster works nicely. Compressed air (duster or air compressor) also works well. If on a porch or indoors, my carvings will never need a new coat of sealer. Chainsaw carvings that are outdoors will need a fresh coat of sealer each year.
