“Introspective”... 18” tall, 4” wide, 2 1/2” thick.
This is a wood carving of a wood spirit. It is hand carved in a Pine knot. Pine knots are sort of like the forest’s driftwood. Any place a branch of a Pine meets the base, a knot is formed. When the tree eventually dies and decays back into the earth, all that remain on the ground are the pitch-filled, resilient knots. It is said that spirits inhabit the knots, that allow them to remain in tact for so long. My job is to release the spirits.

I used a chainsaw to initially shape this carving. Next, I used carbide burrs, sandpaper, oil paint and sealer to finish this carving.
This is a wall-Hanging Sculpture. There is a hanger on the back, along with my signature. I include a certificate with all of my Wood Spirit Carvings, that tells a bit about me and my process.
This carving was proudly made by my two hands, here in southeastern Ohio.

Care instructions
My carvings can be cleaned using many different methods. A feather duster works nicely. Compressed air (duster or air compressor) also works well. If on a porch or indoors, my carvings will never need a new coat of sealer. Chainsaw carvings that are outdoors will need a fresh coat of sealer each year.
