“Old Man Take a Look at my Life”
20 1/4” tall, 3 1/4” wide, 1 3/4” thick
I made this carving in a Pine knot. Pine knots are sort of like the forest’s driftwood. Any place a branch of a Pine tree meets the base, a knot is formed. When the tree finally dies and decays back into the earth, all that remain are the pitch-filled, resilient knots. It is said that spirits inhabit the knots that allow them to remain in tact for so long. It’s my job to release the spirits.

I began this carving using a small chainsaw. I moved on to carbide burrs and small knives to achieve a very high level of detail. I finished this piece using sandpaper, steel wool, polyurethane, and a tad bit of oil paint.

I really enjoy creating themed walking sticks such as Odin, Thor, Baron Samedi or many, many other possibilities. If you'd like a stick with bears, owls, or whatever else you might have in mind, just shoot me a message and we can discuss it.
I am also happy to make custom chainsaw carvings of about any animal or object you'd like.
I know that, as a customer, you expect a certain level of control over the custom process and I, as an artist, expect a certain level of freedom. When we are able to meet in the middle, beautiful things can happen :)

My carvings can be cleaned using many different methods. A feather duster works nicely. Compressed air (duster or air compressor) also works well. If on a porch or indoors, my carvings will never need a new coat of sealer. Chainsaw carvings that are outdoors will need a fresh coat of sealer each year.
