I carved this 2’ tall Black Bear in a piece of Pine. This wood is kiln dried, so it won’t split or crack. I made this carving using a chainsaw and a few hand tools. I used an indoor/outdoor sealer, so you can enjoy this guy inside or outside of the house.

Everything in my shop is made by hand, by me, Josh.
I began this carving with a fairly large Pone log. I used a chainsaw to shape the log into this bear. Once the shape was achieved, I used a smaller chainsaw to detail all of the hair. Next, I used hand tools to detail the eyes and nose. After a good torching, I sanded, painted and sealed this adorable bear. I finished him with Sherwin Williams Superdeck oil, which is perfect for indoors or outdoors.
There are a few cracks in the back of this carving. Those happened while I was drying the carving. This is a good thing, because the moisture is now gone and the wood won’t crack more later :)

Care instructions
My carvings can be cleaned using many different methods. A feather duster works nicely. Compressed air (duster or air compressor) also works well. If on a porch or indoors, my carvings will never need a new coat of sealer. Chainsaw carvings that are outdoors will need a fresh coat of sealer each year.
